A short abstract about our club
and our main
targets:
"Weinviertel" is the name of the
area in the north of Vienna, with small and lovely hills offering a wide view
over the landscape. As the name says, it is also one of the most famous wine
areas in Austria.

In the beginning of the 20th century a dense network of railway lines
has been built to develop this area. Following a long period of decay, most of
these lines have been closed down in 1988. Timetables did not satisfy
passenger’s needs and the wagons and locomotives were the oldest ones used in
Austria, which was an attraction for fans of historic trains, but for sure no fun for passengers...

"Verein Neue Landesbahn"
seeks to reactivate at least the line between Korneuburg,
Ernstbrunn, Mistelbach and
Hohenau. That line has been built between 1904 and 1906 and leads through some
of the most impressive parts of the Weinviertel.

Today there is only freight traffic between Korneuburg
and Ernstbrunn as well as between Hohenau and Mistelbach. In 2006 the main route between Vienna and Breclav was closed because of high water of the river March
and so freight trains (and in former years even Eurocities)
were diverted via Mistelbach. Unfortunately, the
tracks between Ernstbrunn and Mistelbach
are in bad condition and cannot be used by trains at the moment, but since 2007
these tracks are cruised by trolleys, as a first step to reactivate the line
again also for special trains.
But the main target of our club is not to drive with historic trains. We
also want to initiate regular passenger trains in the Zayatal between Hohenau
and Mistelbach, as well as from Ernstbrunn
to Korneuburg and Vienna, the "Landesbahnsprinters". Trains should run at least every
hour on these lines!

In 2011 we had the
chance to buy the 93.1420. This steam engine was used in „Weinviertel“ until 1977 and so we could
save this historic and unique engine.

Nostalgic trains
from Vienna to Ernstbrunn
Since 2008 the special trains from Vienna to Ernstbrunn took more than
50.000 passengers into the "Weinviertel area".
Visitors not only from Austria, but also from abroad (UK, Czech Republic,
Germany, Hungary, Belarussia...)
had the chance to
visit the main points of interest in this area, like the wildlife park in Dörfles and the pilgrimage church Maria Oberleis with the
lookout tower, to enjoy the beautiful landscape, to "climb" the
Buschberg or to drive to Asparn
by trolley to visit the museum of prehistory....
In 2012, starting on May 1st, this trips will be offered
again!
